Evidence-Based Treatment

Emergence utilizes a wide variety of theoretical orientations and evidence-based interventions to provide the treatment that will be most effective for each individual.

Our program model includes the following evidenced-based practices:

(ACT) is a form of psychotherapy that helps individuals learn how to manage difficult emotions, reduce anxiety, and improve overall well-being by accepting their experiences and committing to positive behavior change. The focus of ACT is to help individuals become more present in the moment, be more accepting of their thoughts and feelings, and to act toward their values and goals. Emergence utilizes ACT as one of our evidence-based therapies to help clients overcome a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma. Our staff work collaboratively with clients to develop personalized treatment plans that integrate ACT and other effective therapies.

Attachment-Based Therapy focuses on the importance of the relationship between a person and their primary caregiver. This therapy is based on the idea that early experiences of attachment with caregivers shape an individual’s sense of self and their ability to form healthy relationships later in life. Attachment-based therapy aims to help individuals understand how their past experiences have influenced their present relationships and behaviors. By participating in treatment, individuals can develop a more secure attachment style and learn how to form healthy and fulfilling relationships.

Cognitive-Behavioral Intervention for Substance Use Adult (CBI-SUA) is an evidence-based therapy program that helps adults struggling with substance use. The program focuses on teaching adults how to identify and challenge negative thoughts and behaviors that contribute to substance use, as well as helps them develop healthy coping strategies and improve their communication and decision-making skills. CBI-SUA has been shown to be effective in reducing substance use among adults. At Emergence, we offer CBI-SUA as part of our evidence-based approach to help adults achieve long-term recovery and maintain compliance with the courts and probation.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a well-established therapy that helps people change negative thinking patterns and behaviors that can contribute to substance use and other mental health problems. In CBT, people learn how to identify their negative thoughts and how to challenge them in a more positive way. By doing this, people can develop better coping skills to manage difficult emotions and situations. This therapy provides structure and can be helpful in treating a range of substance use disorders and mental health issues. At Emergence, we offer CBT as part of our comprehensive approach to substance use, mental health, and disordered gambling treatment, alongside other evidence-based therapies and support services.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a therapy that helps people learn skills to manage intense emotions and improve their relationships with others. In DBT, people learn skills like mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. By learning these skills, people can improve their ability to manage strong emotions and interact more effectively with others. At Emergence, we offer DBT-informed therapy as part of our treatment approach. We believe that DBT can be an effective tool to help people who struggle with emotional regulation to improve their overall quality of life.

DUII Treatment is a specialized program that helps individuals who have been arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The program is designed to address the underlying issues that led to the DUII offense and prevent future incidents. The program includes group therapy, education on the impact of substance use on driving, and urine drug tests. The goal is to complete all DMV requirements to reinstate your driver’s license. At Emergence, we provide DUII Treatment to help individuals address their substance use and make positive changes to their behavior, reducing their risk of future intoxicated driving incidents and improving their overall health and well-being.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of therapy that is used to help individuals who have experienced trauma or other distressing events. During EMDR, the therapist guides the individual through a series of eye movements while they recall the traumatic event. This helps to desensitize the individual to the distressing memory and reprocess it in a way that reduces its negative impact on their daily life. EMDR has been shown to be effective in treating PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions related to trauma.

Franklin Reality Model is a problem-solving approach that helps individuals identify the barriers that prevent them from achieving their goals. It focuses on understanding and changing a person’s negative beliefs, thoughts, and attitudes that may be holding them back. The model encourages individuals to take responsibility for their thoughts, feelings, and actions, and to work towards creating a more positive and fulfilling life. This approach is used by Emergence to help individuals overcome disordered gambling, build resilience, and achieve recovery.

Interactive Journaling is a counseling technique that involves using writing exercises to help people explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors related to substance use. The goal is to develop greater self-awareness and insight into their relationship with substances and how it affects their life. During Interactive Journaling sessions, the person is guided through a series of prompts and exercises that encourage them to reflect on their experiences and identify areas for growth and change. At Emergence, we use Interactive Journaling as part of our comprehensive addiction treatment program in combination with other therapies like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or motivational interviewing.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of therapy that focuses on the relationship between a person’s various “parts” or sub-personalities. This approach helps people explore how different aspects of themselves interact with each other and how they can work together to achieve emotional balance and healing. IFS can be especially helpful for individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and other mental health issues. At Emergence, we offer IFS therapy as part of our comprehensive range of evidence-based treatments to help clients achieve greater self-awareness and emotional well-being.

Mindfulness is a type of therapy that helps people focus on the present moment and their thoughts and feelings without judging them. It involves techniques like meditation, deep breathing, and body awareness to help people become more aware of their thoughts and emotions. Mindfulness can be used to reduce stress, manage anxiety and depression, improve focus and concentration, and improve overall well-being. This therapy helps people learn to be more aware and present in the moment, and to approach their thoughts and feelings with acceptance and non-judgment.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) is a cognitive-behavioral program designed to help individuals with substance use and involvement in the justice system overcome negative thinking patterns and behaviors. The program is based on the idea that many people with addiction struggle with issues related to morality, values, and decision-making. MRT aims to help individuals develop a stronger sense of personal responsibility, improve decision-making skills, and build healthier relationships. At Emergence, we offer MRT as part of our comprehensive approach to substance use treatment.

Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) is an evidence-based intervention that helps people find their own reasons for change and increase their motivation to overcome substance use. In MET, the counselor works with the person to explore their current behaviors, beliefs, and values and how these are impacting their life. The counselor then helps the person identify and build on their own internal motivation for change. The goal is to help the person overcome their ambivalence about change and move towards a more positive and healthier lifestyle.

Motivational Interviewing is a counseling technique that helps people find the motivation to change harmful behaviors like substance use. In motivational interviewing, the counselor helps the person explore their own reasons for change and develop a plan to make those changes happen. The goal is to increase the person’s motivation and confidence in their ability to make positive changes in their life. This technique is often used in SUD treatment, but it can also be helpful for other health behaviors like smoking or diet. At Emergence, we use motivational interviewing as part of our evidence-based approach to help people achieve lasting behavior change and long-term recovery.

Neurofeedback is a therapy that involves monitoring and training brain activity using advanced technology. The therapy uses sensors that are attached to the scalp to measure brainwave patterns, which are then displayed on a computer screen in real-time. During a session, individuals are trained to regulate their brainwaves by performing certain activities, such as deep breathing or visualization. The goal of neurofeedback is to help individuals learn how to regulate their own brain function and improve their mental and emotional well-being. Neurofeedback is a safe and non-invasive therapy that can help individuals achieve long-lasting results by improving their overall brain function.

Parenting Inside Out is a program that helps parents who are struggling with substance use, mental health challenges, and involvement in the criminal justice system. The program aims to improve parenting skills and create a stable home environment for children. The program uses a CBT approach and has 12 modules covering communication, discipline, and child development. The program is flexible and can be adjusted to meet the specific needs of each family. At Emergence, we offer Parenting Inside Out as part of our Engage low-barrier services program to help parents develop the skills they need to support their own recovery and provide a safe and supportive environment for their children.

Psychodynamics is a therapeutic approach that focuses on exploring how unconscious thoughts and emotions can affect a person’s behavior. This therapy aims to help people better understand themselves by exploring past experiences and identifying patterns that may be affecting their lives in the present. Through therapy, individuals can work to identify patterns of behavior, unresolved conflicts, and past traumas that may be impacting their present-day choices. By gaining insight into these underlying issues, individuals can develop new coping strategies, build self-awareness, and make positive changes in their lives. At Emergence, we offer psychodynamic therapy as one of the many evidence-based approaches that can address the individualized needs of our clients.

Relapse Prevention Therapy (RPT) is a type of counseling that helps people develop the skills they need to prevent recurrence of substance use after completing treatment. RPT involves identifying and understanding the specific triggers that can lead to substance use, as well as developing a plan for how to respond to these triggers in a healthy and effective way. The goal of RPT is to help people build a strong foundation for their recovery and develop the tools they need to maintain long-term abstinence from substances. RPT is an evidence-based approach that has been shown to be effective in reducing the likelihood of recurrence among people in recovery.

Risk Needs Responsivity (RNR) addresses the factors contributing to criminal behavior by assessing the level of risk an individual poses; identifying their specific needs related to substance use, employment, companions, etc.; and tailoring treatment to their unique characteristics. By providing targeted support and interventions, RNR aims to lower the possibility of re-offending and help people successfully conclude their involvement in the criminal justice system

Seeking Safety is an evidence-based program that helps people who have experienced trauma and struggle with substance use. This program teaches practical skills to help manage difficult emotions and create a sense of safety in their lives. The program is based on the idea that trauma and substance use are connected, and it helps people learn how to manage both issues at the same time. At Emergence, we offer Seeking Safety as part of our treatment approach. We believe that by helping people learn these skills, they can have a better chance of lasting recovery and improved mental health.

SMART Recovery is a CBT-based group therapy program that focuses on empowering individuals to take control of their lives and make positive changes. SMART Recovery teaches practical skills such as coping with urges, managing thoughts and emotions, and building a support network. The program also emphasizes self-empowerment and encourages individuals to take an active role in their own recovery. At Emergence, we recognize the importance of group support and the value of evidence-based practices in promoting lasting recovery, and we offer facilitated SMART Recovery as part of our Engage low-barrier services.

Stop Drop Think is a program that teaches individuals who use substances how to manage their emotions and make responsible decisions. The program combines mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral techniques to help individuals become more aware of their thoughts and feelings and learn how to respond to them in a positive way. The program also focuses on the importance of making responsible choices and avoiding negative consequences associated with substance use. Emergence offers Stop Drop Think as part of our SUD treatment program to help people develop the skills they need to enter recovery and lead a healthier, happier life.

Trauma Treatment focuses on helping individuals who have experienced deeply distressing events. These events, such as abuse, accidents, or violence, can have a lasting impact on a person’s well-being. Trauma treatment is designed to create a safe and supportive environment where individuals can heal from their traumatic experiences, while equipping them with effective coping strategies that will improve their quality of life.

Veterans Treatment is a specialized form of treatment that combines therapeutic approaches to address co-occurring substance use, PTSD, legal involvement, sleep hygiene, and/or other mental health symptoms. Veterans often face unique challenges that can affect their mental health, such as exposure to combat, trauma, and other stressful experiences. The goal of veterans treatment is to help veterans regain control over their lives and improve their overall quality of life.
